We've been very concerned in the last few blogs about caregiver health. We've written that 30% of caregivers die before those that they are caring for. Since there is generally an age gap of 20-30 years between caregivers and their loved ones - that is a scary statistic. Don't fall into the trap of ignoring your own health and well being for the sake of the person that you are caring for.
The American Medical Association has put together a short 18 question self assessment that every caregiver should take. (We recommend printing it out, marking it up and putting it away so that you can look at it again in 6-12 months to see if anything has changed.) Remember that you can't take care of others if you aren't taking care of yourself.
