2014 American Society for Aging Conference in San Diego

Last week, I was in San Diego for the 60th annual American Society for Aging Conference. It was held in conjunction with  the National Alliance for Caregivers conference. It was great to network with 2,500 people who share my passion for caregivers and their families.

I am a first time attendee and it's taken me a week to come down from the non-stop, educational, exciting and emotional journey. The people that I met, and the sessions I attended helped further my knowledge on the issues that caregivers, seniors and their loved ones face. Sessions covered everything from financial services, Veterans, relaxation techniques, music to help with memory impaired seniors, home care, long term care insurance, Alzheimer research, LGBT concerns, hospice and coping with death.

During the entire conference I was given a tremendous gift of information and perspectives I'd never even considered. The wealth of knowledge and wisdom shared reverberated with each person and the emotional energy at the conference was tangible.  I was in "network heaven" and met so many wonderful new friends who I'll look forward to interacting with by email or phone until I see them again next year.

My attendance was made possible by a scholarship from very generous donors who helped several of us create or sustain a Caregiver Coalition. Caregiver Coalitions support caregivers with information and resources to help them care for their loved ones.

The state of Nevada doesn't appear to have a Coalition and one of my goals in the coming year is to search for partners who will start the journey with me to build a bridge of caring. Drop me a note if you are interested in learning more or becoming a part of the Nevada Caregivers Coalition.

Take care and stay healthy!

Dear Debbie,
I am working on setting up a caregiver support group to enhance my non-medical home care company and would like to find out more about this group.
